I am totally loving the new Nikon D5100 that Santa brought me for Christmas. It has all kinds of really cool features. Of course, on Christmas Eve I was taking lots of pictures, trying different things and basically driving my family crazy. I was fascinated to find all the cool effects that were able to be done IN the camera without any special program.
Here’s a normal, untouched picture of our Christmas Tree -
Here’s the same picture after applying an outline effect -

Now as a watercolor -
And finally as a black and white!
As you can see, I’m having lots of fun!!

LOL, Cyndi the b/w photo reminded me of childhood Christmases. Can't wait to see all that you create with your new camera. Santa chose wisely.
Good morning, Cyndi....I love to see black and white photos.....I'll be watching for all of your new photos....
Bill And Cyndi: Great gift---I wish I got one for Christmas...I need to try that one out--looks like it could be great for listings! Thanks for sharing the idea!
Cyndi - I love the watercolor edition! I think I want a new camera...
Mona - I love the black and whites and, yes, it does remind us "mature" folks of our childhood doesn't it!
Barbara - I have been taking so many as I learn all the wonderful features Nikon built into this one. Now to just find the time to upload them.
Paula - The D5100 comes with an 18-55 lens which is GREAT for those wide-angle interior shots. I also bought a 55-200mm which will zoom in enough to get a bird from WAY far away and not disturb it! The best of both worlds.
Norma - You take great shots now, but I will say this one is a joy to work with.

One of the things that has come into existence these past years that has soaked up a great deal of my time, is photo-editing. I love playing with the different effects. I like that "watercolor" effect on your tree.
Hi Cyndi, I had left a comment on anther of your photo posts asking what your camera was. I got the answer to your camera type. I am a Nikon man myself. Here is my camera set up ( taking a photo of my Tree) with my new 400 mm lens that I got for Christmas.
Myrl - I could spend WAY too much time playing and having fun with photo editing. It's one of those things I choose to do during my "brainless fun" time.
William - Great looking lens!! But your tree is going to be a little hard to find with that crazy ape hanging out on the lens!
Looks like a terrific new tool you have there. It is so much fun to play around with different effects and it makes the photos really POP...enjoy it all!
Larry and Sheila - Thank you!! I am having fun playing around with it and (slowly) learning all the features. It really makes a difference when you go in a home and can take great shots. But then to come back to the office and make them REALLY great is even better!
